Oblique-Angle Photos

Oblique photos can be taken at various angles from the airplane to obtain the desired effect.  Factors such as lighting, site operations, and the complexity of the site will help determine the best position to use. Typically, lower angles are used for simple residential sites, whereas steeper angles are used for more complex industrial facilities.  Examples of various types of oblique photos taken by HVAP are:

Environmental Sites

Bill has 30 years of experience managing environmental investigations and site cleanups, and brings this experience to the layout of the photos.  HVAP has taken over 10,000 photos of landfills, MGP sites, capping operations, and soil excavations of all kinds.
Industrial Facilities

HVAP has over 8 years of experience with the energy industry on Long Island, Upstate New York, and New England.  Due to heightened security around these facilities, HVAP employs strict rules regarding prior notification of plant personnel and local police agencies, and maintains constant communication with FAA controllers when in the air.

Construction Documentation

HVAP has a number of contracts with construction companies for routine (usually monthly) documentation of construction activities.  These photos can be highly valuable in the defense of litigation claims and/or contractor change orders.

Demolition

Timing is everything to capture the explosive demolition of these factory buildings in New Jersey and to document the impact of the dust cloud.
Soil Remediation

HVAP is often asked to be overhead at a specified time to document a particular event, such as this crane operation to move this temporary “sprung” building structure.
Landfills

Selecting the right time of year to take certain photos allows the vegetative color to enhance the primary target, such as this landfill in New Jersey.
Shallow Water Sediments

The delineation and remediation of shallow water sediments is often enhanced by clear aerial photos of the bottom topography.
